THE fourth day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival is headlined by Battaash, who is going for his fifth consecutive win in the King George Qatar Stakes. He has twice broken the course record in this Group 2 and he is electrifying to watch. His main danger is Dragon Symbol, who only made his debut in March, winning his first four starts and then finishing second on three occasions including when he was demoted to second in the Commonwealth Cup. The main point here with Dragon Symbol is the drop back to five furlongs, which is a specialist distance.

Earlier in the afternoon Baaeed is heavily odds on to make it four career wins from four starts as he enters Group company for the first time and if he performs like he did at the July Festival when napped in my Unibet column he will win comfortably.

A very exciting afternoon of high-quality racing ahead.

Enjoy whether #athome or at Goodwood.

Cheers

1.50 Goodwood – Unibet 3 Boosts A Day Goodwood Handicap (2m 4½f)

The Grand Visir looks sure to run a good race with form figures this season of 2332, which includes a second in the Chester Cup and a third in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot. Trainer Ian Williams won this race back in 2017 and The Grand Visir has been well placed. Ground should be spot-on and although he has his share of weight, this extreme trip suits and it brings him right into it.

Green Book put up his best effort last time out when fifth to Stratum in The Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot, having disappointed at Haydock on his penultimate start after winning comfortable at Chester. Green Book will like the going, trip fine, runs off eight stone seven pounds and if he takes to Goodwood this Authorized gelding will be right there.

Path Of Thunder (nap) recorded his first career success at the July Festival in emphatic style over today’s trip. This followed a third in Meydan and two seconds at Newbury and Chelmsford respectively. Path Of Thunder is ground versatile and this four-year-old really looks the type to improve significantly for that Newmarket success.

Unibet 9/2 win

Variyann has his first start for six months in June when finishing second to Johan (reopposes today) after just being edged out at the finish with Migration in fourth (won on Tuesday). This was his first start for inform Martin Meade after some good runs on the all-weather. Variyann has won at Goodwood and has won on good to soft too. If he steps up from that Salisbury performance, he is in with a definite each way shout.

3.35 Goodwood – King George Qatar Stakes Group 2 (5f)

Battaash can win for the fifth consecutive year at the course where he has always thrived and where he has performed so brilliantly on all types of going. At Royal Ascot in the King’s Stand Stakes he went off far too quickly like many others and paid the price as he faded to finish fourth. That was his first start of the season, and he will come on plenty for the run.

This seven-year-old will be ridden more patiently this time and I look forward to him receiving a great reception from the packed stands of Goodwood.

Unibet 11/8 win

5.20 Goodwood – Handicap (1m 3f)

Marching Army finished second at Salisbury on his penultimate start at 33/1 to Kolisi on good to soft and was an eyecatcher. He then ran at Leicester a couple of weeks ago making all and winning comfortably on his third career start. I can see Marching Army improving once again and he has been found a good opportunity to follow up here.
