IN 2019 Tiger Roll was 4/1 and we know this wonderful horse won his second Randox Grand National with ease. In this year’s renewal Cloth Cap is the same price in the betting too and for good reason, as he shown so much improvement this season. He stays the trip, will thrive on the ground and if the handicapper had had his way, he would be carrying an extra stone!

I prefer to look at bigger prices so see my four selections below and with Unibet Racing paying six places in the Grand National I have added a 100/1 outsider for those who like to have a small each way wager at a large price.

Earlier in the afternoon Shishkin for Nicky Henderson is unopposable in the Doom Bar Maghull Novices’ Chase and will follow up his Cheltenham Arkle success.

Enjoy the Randox Grand National and the rest of a fantastic card.

Cheers

1.45 Aintree – Handicap Hurdle (3m½f)

Champagne Platinum for Unibet Ambassador Nicky Henderson looks sure to be suited by Aintree’s flatter track, as he doesn’t appear to really get up the Cheltenham hill. This happened in the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham where he came with a strong challenge before fading after the last to finish fifth. He has shown classy form over hurdles and fences, definitely has more improvement to come and note the cheekpieces are off this time.

Unibet 17/2 each way

3.35 Aintree – Stayers’ Hurdle (3m½f)

Lisnagar Oscar was travelling really well at Cheltenham before falling out in the country and would have surely gone close otherwise. With questions about those at the top of the market he looks a good each way selection and Rachael Blackmore has been booked.

Unibet 9/1 each way

4.15 Aintree – Handicap Chase (3m 1f)

Happygolucky went off as favourite in the Ultima at Cheltenham and finished second to the very experienced Vintage Clouds, who ran a blinder. Happygolucky is still only a novice, has been very consistent and still has lots of potential. This course looks sure to suit him.

Unibet 100/30 win

5.15 Aintree – Randox Grand National Handicap Chase (4m 2f)

Burrows Saint (nap) for Willie Mullins has been lined up for this race and he shaped very well behind Acapella Bourgeois (reopposes today) last time out at Fairyhouse. His mark had previously been protected by running over hurdles. Back in April 2019 Burrows Saint won the Irish National and the Randox Grand National has been the target ever since for William Mullins’ eight-year-old. He has won on good ground too.

Unibet 9/1 each way

Any Second Now has been targeted at the Randox Grand National since winning the Kim Muir at the 2019 Cheltenham Festival and is trained by Ted Walsh, who has won the Grand National with Papillon. This season Any Second Now has had a couple of runs over hurdles, whilst showing last time out that he is in fine fettle winning a Grade 2 over two miles in good style at Navan last month. He looks like he will be suited by the ground conditions.

Unibet 10/1 each way

Mister Malarky won’t win any awards for consistency, yet the talented individual could run a big race. Last time out he was third to Clondaw Castle (ran well Thursday) at Kempton running with great enthusiasm on his first start after a wind op, having won the same contest in 2019. This is a step up in trip, however on breeding he looks sure to stay and has won on good ground too.

Unibet 25/1 each way

Takingrisks looks overpriced once again, having obliged in my Unibet column when winning at Doncaster at 40/1 in February in typically gutsy fashion beating Aye Right on that occasion in testing conditions. This twelve-year-old was always up with the pace on that day and providing he doesn’t get too far back early on he looks a really good each way shout. It is important to note that Takingrisks won the Scottish National on good ground in 2019, when seeing out the marathon trip easily, with Grand National favourite Cloth Cap third.

Unibet 33/1 each way

Unibet Racing are paying six places on the Grand National and the best of the outsiders for those who like to have a small each way wager is Sub Lieutenant, who has shaped perfectly well in two starts for his new yard and finished second over these fences in the 2019 Topham. Tabitha Worsley has won over fences too, having ridden Top Wood to Foxhunters victory.

Unibet 66-1 each way
