1.15pm: I won on Sir Busker at Kempton last season and he is the ideal type for a race like this. He travels strongly, has a good cruising speed and a turn of foot. He would get beat in small fields all day long but he will love this set-up. It won’t be easy off top weight but he deserved to go 4lb for his Newcastle win, which looks strong, and he is the best horse in the race. Unibet are paying AN EXTRA PLACE on this race!

1.50pm: Berlin Tango did us a favour when winning at Kempton and I will stick with him here, despite him picking up a 4lb penalty for that Group 3. He’s a good horse. First Receiver looks like he is priced up more on reputation than performance after his Kempton maiden win, while I would say the Guineas horses, Juan Elcano and Kenzai Warrior, will need to improve here.

2.25pm: Kipps got nutted on the line at Haydock but at least he didn’t pick up a penalty for winning there, as he probably should have. He travelled beautifully through the race and didn’t have enough time to rally at the finish. He is clearly much better than his mark of 83. Unibet are paying AN EXTRA PLACE on this race!

3.00pm: This looks Japan’s for the taking. With the exception of Addeybb, who will not have his ground unless some of those thunderstorms materialize, he is some way ahead of his field with more upside in him than them, too. His Arc fourth was good given the heavy ground, and his performances before that, including a win at this meeting and a Juddmonte victory, were faultless.

3.35pm: Bell Rock did well to pick up Ouzo at Newmarket earlier in the season, and I reckon he could be up to defying the 5lb penalty. The front two pulled well clear of the third and he has had just the five starts too, one of them in Group 1 company here. Unibet are paying AN EXTRA PLACE on this race!

4.10pm: This looks a bit of a lottery – 20 juveniles, each having had just the one run – but Tactical is my dart. I thought he was a little bit unlucky when third at Newmarket and he could be the answer to this headscratcher.

4.40pm: Collide looks an improver but he has a hard task off top weight here. I like Themaxwecan at a bigger price. Mark Johnston knows what he is doing in middle-distance/staying handicaps on the round course here – and this horse beat Sleeping Lion here last summer – so he could be the answer to this puzzle after a pipe-opener at Haydock.
