THE first day of Doncaster’s four day St. Leger Festival starts today with the popular The Leger Legends at 3.35, with legends like Kieren Fallon, Andrew Thornton and Noel Fehily (see below) in the field this is looking like a popular feature as ever.

The final three-year-old classic and the feature of the St Leger Festival is run on Saturday and I still feel this fabulous classic, first run in 1776, still doesn’t get the plaudits it deserves. In 2017, Crystal Ocean and Stradivarius finished second and third behind Capri and we know what has happened since then!

For this year’s renewal, I like the look of favourite Logician and each way Technician.

2.25 Doncaster Handicap 6f

Modern British Art (nap) has improved on all three starts and did it nicely when making all at Bath last time out. Second a winner since to give the form a good look, and 7f shouldn’t pose any problem on breeding. The Michael Bell yard have won this in the past, too.

3.35 Doncaster The Leger Legends 1m

Hammer Gun gets the services of Noel Fehily, and the pair could be ideal for each other as the horse needs bringing from the back of the field with his run, a tactic Noel pulled off many times in his career. A course and distance winner on quick ground earlier in the season, and looks overpriced. I like the look of Unibet's EXTRA PLACE OFFER in this race, too!

3.45 Uttoxeter Handicap Hurdle 2m 4f

Zubayr for Ian Williams took a better class handicap than this at Southwell in June and his Goodwood blowout on the Flat last time is easily forgiven. Goes on most ground and although nudged up another 3lb, goes well for Bryony Frost and can score again.

Unibet win 100/30

4.45 Doncaster Conditions Stakes 1m 2f

Walkinthesand, trained by Unibet Ambassador Richard Hannon is having a quick turnaround, which is interesting, as the ground completely went against him at Haydock on Saturday but still ran with credit. His handicap win off a mark of 105 at Newmarket is as good a piece of handicap form as you will find this season, and with quick ground here, he could easily bounce back.

4.55 Uttoxeter Handicap Hurdle 2m

Just Marvin had already shown some ability in novice hurdles but much better in latest handicap run, staying on nicely late in the day for third. Travelled well there, and gave the impression of more to come. Yard having a cracking time of it and this could be another winner for them.

Unibet each way 7/1
