Game week 4

Juve vs Verona — Saturday, 21 September at 17:00 BST

Juve face a tricky clash with Verona this weekend, which comes after their first Champions League outing of the season – against Atl Madrid. What Juve don’t need right now is distractions, with Inter already ahead of them in the Serie A title race. Yet Juve’s remit is to win the Champions League this season — and that could play a part in where the Italian title ends up.

Juve were held to a frustrating draw with Fiorentina last weekend in which they managed just eight shots all game. It was an alarmingly dispirited performance from Maurizio Sarri’s side. Juve’s other two games were a 1-0 win over Parma on opening day, before a thrilling but chaotic 4-3 triumph against Sarri’s former side Napoli.

Verona sit 11th in the table and it wouldn’t be a surprise if this is where they finish come May. All three of their league games have been tight so far, with three red cards shown.

It’s hard to see Juve losing their cool this early in the season but another Verona dismissal is certainly a possibility here. Juve are 1.14 to win.

Milan vs Inter — Saturday, 21 September at 19:45 BST

This is one of the greatest rivalries in world football and Inter have certainly taken the share of the spoils in recent seasons. Inter’s record over rivals Milan since the start of the 2016/17 campaign reads W3 D3. This dominance has not always reflected itself on the Serie A table, with both sides struggling over the past few years.

But Inter are now in a position where they feel they can challenge Juve for the title. The signing of Romelu Lukaku has proved massive for Inter, with the striker already scoring twice in three games. Loanee Stefano Sensi is also on two goals, having taken well to the tactics of manager Antonio Conte.

Milan, on the other hand, started the season with a 1-0 loss at Udinese yet bounced back two successive wins over Brescia and Verona. All three matches have ended 1-0 and manager Marco Giampaolo appears determined to keep games tight. But if Milan really want to challenge for top-four spots in Serie A, they need to beat teams like Brescia and Verona with far more conviction.

Inter are the 2.15 favourites to win this game, although they may be affected from Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Slavia Prague. It is this match which could give Milan hope of snatching victory.

Lazio vs Parma — Sunday, 22 September at 19:45 BST

Lazio face the uncomfortable visit of Parma just three days after their first Europa League clash of the new season, away at Romanian side Cluj. It certainly isn’t great preparation for a team that has already exposed some weaknesses within the squad already this season.

Lazio lost 2-1 at SPAL last weekend, having shown mettle to hold Roma to a 1-1 draw in the Rome derby before the international break. It appears as though this could be a rollercoaster season for Lazio and that could impact on their chances of securing another year of European football.

As for Parma, their strong start was undermined by a 3-1 home defeat to Cagliari last weekend, in which they conceded all three of the away side’s shots on target. That defensive frailty could come back to haunt Parma this season.

Parma are a staggering 9.50 to win this game, which is a very high price for a side that only lost 1-0 at Juventus on the opening day of the season. At this price, they are worth considering.
