England favourites to win

Can England win the Cricket World Cup? It’s a question many fans and pundits are asking. But one man who isn’t is England captain Eoin Morgan, who is confident the tournament hosts can storm to victory here.

Indeed, many cricket betting fans are also siding with England to clinch victory in the final at Lord’s on July 14. They are 3.00 to do so and currently top the ICC World Rankings. Captain Morgan has been allowed to introduce a new-look team over the years since England’s disappointing 2015 World Cup performance. And it seems to have worked.

Jonny Bairstow, Liam Plunkett, Jos Buttler and Joe Root add experience to the team, while Jofra Archer, Mark Wood and Tom Curran offer a wicked bowling attack. This is an exciting England team that should perform well.

Can anyone challenge England?

Most certainly yes! England are by no means unbeatable — as Steve Smith’s century for Australia in their warm-up win over the World Cup hosts demonstrated. The Aussies arrive in England fired up, with home fans booing Smith likely to become a regular scene.

What Australia want more than anything else heading into an Ashes summer is the chance to put one over on England. And at 4.75 the fifth-ranked team in the world are an excellent price to win this tournament.

India are second favourites at 4.00 but punters seem to be drifting away from the team. India may be ranked second in the world for one-day cricket but conditions in England this summer are not thought to be favourable. Add to this the fact Australia beat India 3-2 during their series tour of the sub-continent over the winter, and it’s easy to see why punters are staying away.

New Zealand the smart choice?

New Zealand could well make an impression at this World Cup — and are 10.00 to win the tournament. And they may well be the smart choice here. New Zealand have a relatively easy start to the group stage with games against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. During that period England and South Africa will clash, while Australia and India also go head to head.

That means some of New Zealand’s top-four rivals in the group stage will have dropped points. If New Zealand can start well and get into their groove — especially at the crease — then they could well prove a tricky opposition to skittle.

And at 10.00, that’s an excellent price for a team whose only real downfall over the past 24 months was an ODI series loss to India. And remember, you can live stream cricket and bet on New Zealand all tournament with Unibet!
