Madrid Open WTA: May 4-12

Kvitova the early favourite

Petra Kvitova is the favourite to win the Madrid Open after clinching the Stuttgart title last week. The Czech star is enjoying a purple patch this spring and appears to have found her feet on the clay already.

Kvitova is 4.25 to win in Madrid and has already beaten Sofia Kenin and Kristina Mladenovic with ease in the opening rounds. The No 2 seed faces a potential quarter-final clash with Kiki Bertens this week — but Kvitova beat the Dutchwoman in three sets last month.

This tournament could very well see Kvitova go all the way and the fact she avoids Simona Halep or Naomi Osaka until the final means she may well be fresh heading into Sunday’s clash.

Make sure to live stream tennis and watch Kvitova closely if you’re betting on her progress. She is one of the most entertaining players on tour.

Top seed Osaka the outsider

Faith in Naomi Osaka claiming a career-first clay title appears to be dwindling fast. The World Number 1 claimed the Melbourne title earlier this year but hard courts are certainly her best surface.

Osaka is yet to reach a clay-court final and is 9.00 — the fifth favourite — to win in Madrid. However, should could still prove a decent bet. After all, Osaka reached the Stuttgart semi-finals before withdrawing with an abdominal injury.

She is expected to maintain her fitness through Madrid and it will be interesting to see how she progresses. Osaka is another player to bet on and watch via our tennis live stream service, as her matches could well be competitive.

If you have faith in the burgeoning Japanese superstar then her current 9.00 price is an excellent bet.

Other tennis bets

Simona Halep is 5.25 to win the Madrid Open but this is her first clay tournament of the season. She last played on the Miami hard surface at the end of the March. Out of form and practice means Halep is not the most favourable bet here.

Instead, ninth-seed Ashleigh Barty is the punt worth considering here. The Australian is not exactly a clay expert but has a favourable draw here. Elina Svitolina (sixth seed) is already out of Barty’s quarter and the 23-year-old will have confidence of giving Halep a tough battle if they both reach the last-eight.

Barty at 8.00 is worth considering.
