Everyone has to know their limits, whether in Formula One or in gambling. You have to know when to stop in order to remain in control. At Unibet, this is of crucial importance to us to ensure our customers have as fun an experience as possible and avoid spending beyond their means. We spoke to two-time F1 World Champion Mika Häkkinen to get his view on responsible gaming.
Why are you committed to the issue of responsible gaming, why is it important to you?
Responsible gaming is a very important global trend, and also the main reason why I wanted to start my cooperation with Unibet in the first place a few years ago. In my role as Unibet brand ambassador I want to support Unibet customers by growing their awareness of different responsible gaming tools.
What does responsible gaming mean to you?
Basically it is about knowing your limits. Knowing when to go for it, and when not to. Nobody should play games with more than they can afford to, and playing should always be fun. In Formula One, I always pushed it to the limit, but a driver needs to know his boundaries. Sometimes you need to know when to stop to stay in control. The same applies to gaming.
It's about knowing your limits. How did you manage to know your limits in sports?
I was always super analytical in everything I did. This applied to my physical and mental preparation, knowledge about cars, tracks and competitors, as well as to my decision-making during races. I wanted to have all the available information before making decisions. This is exactly the type of approach I want to educate to Unibet’s customers when it comes to the responsible gaming tools.
️ It's good to talk.

How can a normal person, not a top athlete, know his limits?
I think the same rules and methods apply to everyone. Always consider what your doing, analyse the different aspects before making decisions and control your emotions.
Mental health is an important prerequisite for this, isn't it?
Yes, of course. If someone is experiencing mental difficulties, it is very important to detect the issues in good time and get the appropriate help.
You are considered a very analytical person, sports and betting are very emotional at the same time. How can that be combined?
It’s all about knowing your boundaries and controlling your emotions. Together with other known sports people, I want to tell Unibet customers relatable stories of decision-making and risk analysis in stressful and emotional situations. On my part, I hope that this knowhow supports people in gaming responsibly,
Do you also bet yourself – how do you go about it?
Sometimes, yes. It’s all about having a bit of fun and adding excitement while you enjoy the sports you love.
At Unibet, we are committed to Responsible Gaming to ensure our customers have fun when betting with us, know how to set themselves limits, and fully understand what help and support is available.
